Effective July 1, 2026, Georgia expanded its medical cannabis program, allowing registered patients and caregivers to purchase a wider variety of medical cannabis products from licensed dispensaries and participating independent pharmacies. Licensed production facilities regulated by the Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission may now manufacture products including oils, tinctures, transdermal patches, lotions, capsules, ingestible products, and vaporizers. Vaporizer products may include medical cannabis dry flower intended solely for vaporization, as well as concentrated cannabis extracts designed for use in approved vaporization devices. However, Georgia law continues to strictly prohibit the smoking of cannabis products and does not permit the manufacture or sale of edibles containing medical cannabis. Under current Georgia law, medical cannabis products are limited to 1,200 milligrams of THC per package, and registered patients or caregivers with a valid Medical Cannabis Registry Card may legally possess up to 12,000 milligrams of THC. Possession of marijuana or cannabis products by individuals who are not authorized under Georgia's medical cannabis program remains illegal under both state and federal law.
Yes. Any Low THC Oil Registry Card that has not expired remains valid, even though the program has been renamed the Georgia Medical Cannabis Patient Registry. The name change does not invalidate existing, unexpired cards. Law enforcement should continue to recognize unexpired Low THC Oil Registry Cards as valid until their expiration date. Replacement and newly issued cards will reflect the updated Medical Cannabis program name.
